Control is mankind’s fundamental need. It is the underlying reason for every human pursuit.
The very first thing we learn to control, as babies, is motion – our position in space and time. Dance is the culmination of that mastery. In dancing we celebrate our first brave step toward control – the beginning of our individual hero journeys through life.
Is driving the culmination of dance? Driving is 100% about control, and its only purpose is motion. Driving means controlling a motor vehicle’s direction, speed, and dynamic positioning … in various environments … under any conditions … according to rules … a midst other human beings using motorized and non-motorized vehicles, or moving on their own feet. Driving is exercising skilled, wise, and graceful control of motion – of one’s position in space and time, while charged with life-and-death responsibility. Clearly, driving is the ultimate dance.
When we feel most alive – at the transcendent moment of victory, when exulting in pure joy – we celebrate with motion. We stand-up. We stretch our arms outward and upward toward infinity. We throw back our heads, laugh and yell. We jump. We DANCE!
So celebrate driving. Celebrate your own driving – your unique, personal contribution to the world’s greatest dance!
