Needed: A Paradigm

The primary road safety problem is that there is no widely accepted paradigm for driving, let alone good driving.  There is only defensive driving, which, by insisting that each driver must distrust and fear all others, merely confirms every driver’s opinion that his methods and point-of-view are correct and that all others are stupid.  The inevitable results are aggressive driving, distracted driving, impaired driving, needless congestion, fickle enforcement guidelines, worthless instruction, etc.
